Challenge
Most recipe apps are search engines with photos. The brief was to design an app that actually helps people cook — from inspiration through to plating — without friction in the kitchen.
My approach / process
Ran user interviews to map the real cooking journey. Designed three connected modes: Discover (editorial inspiration), Plan (shopping list automation) and Cook (step-by-step hands-free mode with large type and voice-friendly pacing).
Key UX / UI decisions
- Cook Mode with oversized typography, auto-advance timers and screen-wake handling.
- Smart shopping list that merges ingredients across recipes and groups by aisle.
- Editorial homepage curated by mood, time and skill — not just popularity.
- Iconography and motion designed for one-handed use.
Outcome
A full mobile case study spanning discovery, meal planning, shopping and cooking — featured with 238 appreciations on Behance.
